Fishing in Alaska

Types of Fish
Many anglers come to the state to fish specifically for salmon. A number of different species are found in Alaskan waters, including king salmon, coho salmon, pink salmon, Pacific cod, rockfish, halibut, grayling, Dolly Varden, wild trout and a variety of other species are abundant in the waters of southeastern Alaska. 

Copper River
The Copper River in Alaska’s south central region is known as one of the best fishing areas in the state. Every summer, anglers from all over the country and the world arrive to take advantage of the salmon runs. Also found are grayling, char, Dolly Varden and trout, which make this area a popular destination.

Kenai Peninsula
Some of the largest king salmon are found in the waterways of the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska’s southwest region. Silvers, reds, steelhead trout, rainbow trout and Dolly Varden are also abundant. The area is so popular that anglers must make reservations early in this highly desirable area. 

Prince William Sound
Off the coast of southeastern Alaska, anglers can enjoy fishing the waters of Prince William Sound with its abundance of cod, halibut, five types of salmon, Dolly Varden and trout. The calm waters of the Sound make this a worthwhile fishing adventure.
